John Windhorst: I learned about COPD from my older sister who is on oxygen 24/7 so when I started noticing breathing difficulty, I went to a pulmonary doctor. I found out I was down to 37% capacity. As a high energy person, it took me another 2 years before I quit smoking and even then it was another year before I had to start using inhalers and a few more years before I started on oxygen when exercising and sleeping. I have had to drastically change my lifestyle - no more high pressure activities. But I have not stopped! I was a registered electrical engineer when I got introduced to computers in the late 50's - and I have been involved in managing, repairing, programming and consulting on computers since then. I'm in my 70's, retired but doing computer work, divorced, four children, and very active in my local Christian church. |
